George Clooney Mocks Himself, Praises Amal Alamuddin in Golden Globe Awards Speech

When accepting the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globe Awards last night, George Clooney delivered a humorous and touching acceptance speech.

The lifetime achievement award winner didn’t spare himself from several solid jabs when he took the stage, but was also equal parts humbled and emotional.

“I’ve had a pretty good year myself, and I’m not just referring to fabulous reviews of Monuments Men,” he said, referring to his new movie, and marriage.

George, of course, tied the knot with Amal Alamuddin, 36, last year.

“It’s a humbling thing when you find someone to love,” the formerly infamous bachelor said. “Even better when you’ve been waiting your whole life."

"And when your whole life is 53 years … cue Amy, start the jokes.”

Clooney then turned serious, addressing his wife: “Amal, whatever alchemy it was that brought us together, I couldn’t be more proud to be your husband.”

George also mused on the nature of not just the 2015 Golden Globe Awards, but award shows in general, where most nominees end up "losers."

Yet, by virtue of simply being there, they’ve all already won. Big.

“If you are in this room you’ve caught the brass ring,” Clooney continued. “You get to do what you’ve always dreamed to do and be celebrated for it.”

He then referenced two huge stars we lost in 2014, saying he remembers Lauren Bacall and Robin Williams’ roles and lines, not what awards they won.

Finally, he mentioned the marches after the Charlie Hebdo attack in Paris, saying, “They marched in support of the idea that we will not walk in fear."

Good guy, that George. Very good guy.
